I have grown immensely discouraged by the subject of COVID-19. It has become another point of tribal divisions, causing fissures in the facade of our society to grow into a gaping chasm. We have permitted strawman to dominate a space that demands we steelman arguments instead. Ad hominems are injected into every discussion, even when unintentional. False equivalencies and false dichotomies are used when expedient as cherry-picking information merely to win becomes prevalent. The establishment is firmly entrenched in its silos, unable to make concessions when appropriate. Their once-revered leadership has devolved into its lowest form, and like uncivilized mental slaves, we preserve their power for them.
But the rabble has awoken. We appear to be at loggerheads, an impasse, where the immovable object of the orthodoxy meets the unstoppable force of heterodoxy. I have come to understand it as a paradigm-shifting schism. The prevailing thesis of tradition must inevitably confront the antithesis of progress. Out of which, a synthesis shall emerge from the aftermath of conflict. We are giving rise to a newly established order destined to repeat the cycle.
The question is, who will determine the parameters of this new order?
Who will be at the wheel when the clock strikes midnight and the time for turning back is long passed. I wish I could express this in more cut and dry, black and white terms, but it’s not that simple. Moreover, any attempt at simplifying the situation will bring more confusion than clarity.
The current establishment across fraternities has failed us, but more importantly, we have failed ourselves. But it is never too late to turn things around. If we make a determined and dedicated push, we can cause enough inertia to carry us across the line of no return regardless of the amount of pushback from the system.
But where do we start?
How do we get the ball rolling in the right direction?
What is the right direction?
At the moment, I am not in a position to communicate with more clarity. So please forgive this blog post as it is just some random thoughts I woke up with, so on that note, I will stop typing, and I will tell you more in today’s corresponding vlog. But I’m back and will be maintaining a more consistent schedule from here on out.
Until next time.
Be strong, stay safe, and God bless Saint Lucia.
